Women's League Round 1

Our new look Angels of the North Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Teams took to the Court last weekend in Sheffield for the first round of matches in the British Wheelchair Basketball National Women’s League

The Angels have teams in the 1st and 2nd Division and are made up of players from around the country – mainly from the North of England but this season we include a few Southern visitors, plus players from Scotland and Wales !

The largest of its kind in the world, the British Wheelchair Basketball Women’s League was first introduced in 2003 to provide a female only environment to help nurture participants both as players and as individuals. In Women’s League, players of all abilities find the encouragement and support to achieve their best both on and off the court.

The League welcomes both elite players and newcomers and plays a key role in enabling Great Britain’s elite athletes to succeed on the international stage.

Women’s League continues to rapidly grow, featuring players from across England and the Home Countries.

I am the Head Coach for The Angels 1st Team and am assisted by Lothian Phoenix Coach Jen Scally. Our team boasts 5 retired and 2 current GB players. Our Captain Robyn Love is a current GB player and competed at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games – she is joined by fellow GB Player Amy Conroy and retired GB Players Sarah Baillie, Caroline Maclean, Laurie Williams, Paula Johnson and Myself. Joining these players are a mix of new and more experienced players and this will be an exciting season for the 1st Team.

The Angels 2nd Team led by Caernarfon Celts Head Coach Deb Bashford, assisted by Newcastle Eagles’ Kat Easson have a number of players newer to Women’s League who join experienced players Johnson, Baillie and Myself. Paula Johnson Captains
